A window into an evergreen, aromatic landscape. Picture a sunny island in the Adriatic, a small harbor with fig and olive groves, surrounded by verdant hills of Mediterranean pine tree, strings of cypress and wild herbs throughout. With notes of Adriatic fig, extra virgin olive oil, sea salt, dried pine needles and wild rosemary.

August 1508, Lopud Island, Adriatic Sea. Lopud is an evergreen island with lush fig and olive groves by the sea. From the port, dotted with Renaissance stone villas, the scent of fig and crushed olives is so strong that the salty sea breeze carries it beyond, towards forests of Mediterranean pine and cypress. Above, ancient chapels overlooking the harbor like sentinels are overgrown with wild thyme, fennel and rosemary. The whole landscape an aromatic paradise of green fig, dried pine needles, wild herbs and the subtle, nutty scent of olive oil. Developed with Rodrigo Flores Roux.

Editor's Notes

At first herbal, then vegetal, mineral, green, fresh, salty. A Grove by the Sea greets the wearer with an unmistakable green fig impression, though there’s something elusive about it; with the returning feeling that there’s more to it. Fruit skin and flesh, stem and chlorophyll, it is an amorphous shape during its opening sequence. As you pass through fig - purple-green skin and milky-pulpy flesh, and even the generous leaves with their own intoxicating smell - you catch a glimpse of plump olives, crushed to yield brightly scented and golden olive oil - with a characteristic soft whiff of grass and flowers, turning Mediterranean with the savoury-sweet scent of thyme, caught up in a saline ocean breeze - carrying the smell of cypress, pine, and fir trees in the distance, reiterated with the sweet conifer buzz of rosemary. A Grove by the Sea is not entirely an aquatic scent, as it moves the wearer deeper inland, where the sea is at the ideal distance, enough to inflect and to colour without overwhelming.
