September 1877, Port of Marseille, France. In a bedroom in the City of Flesh, a Kashmiri shawl drapes decadently over the bed. Once extremely coveted, the shawls are now out of fashion with the bourgeois, their distinctive patchouli scent a victim of their downfall. Adopted by bohemians and courtesans, the fragrance mixes with French lavender, musky ambers and exotic balsams. With a new edge, and in the hands of misfits with style, the ‘undesirable’ becomes desired again. Developed with Rodrigo Flores-Roux.

Perfumer Rodrigo Flores-Roux elucidates the idea of patchouli brilliantly, who pulls back only to leap dazzlingly forward - respecting the natural contours of the beloved shrub, all while leaning into fractionated material, free of the most undesirable aspects. Camphor and dust, earth, wood, and balsam - these trace materials are elevated, earning Misfit its name, though with an unexpected clarity.

While the patchouli impression is apparent and true, lavender is an essential part of this complex - its fuzzy texture brilliantly in hand with patchouli, it reiterates the more delicate, higher-toned, and clean aspects of freshness in the scent. It draws the wearer towards an immediate familiarity - decadence and leanness, this is supported from all sides with a complex of amber resins and balms; like an ancient tincture or powder made from rose petals, ambrette seed, carrot seed, spices, angelica root, and tonka bean. Misfit feels like an ancient breath that blows from past into the present.
