DOVO Solingen Straight Razor: Ebony Bismarck 6/8" Carbon

As always, as soon as I receive a new straight razor I check if it's up to check and shave ready. I opened the box, took it out and might I say it is a beautiful straight razor. I then performed a simple hanging hair test, which it could not pass even with quite some force with the hair. I thought about honing it, which is when I noticed something that would have not only made it dangerous to use, but impossible to hone without me putting in an insane amount of work and wasting who knows how much of the blade. The back of one side of the blade (when the blade was laid gently flat against a flat surface with the spine and blade touching the surface, the same way as if you were to hone) did not meet the surface.

I have already sent 2 email requests over the pass many days, as well as a submission through the sight itself. I have yet to receive even a recognition of my email, led alone a fix to the issue. $280 for useless junk that looks cool. Amazing.

Being the first time using in a cut throat, I found this razor to be really easy to use. From the size (length), to its overall weight and to the rounded edge.. its great if you're a beginner and the quality is decent to last a long time

This razor truly is something else. It looks and feels stunning. It's got a really good weight to it and and 6/8 blade makes it a good all-rounder.

Probably wouldn't recommend this as your first razor but it would make a great addition to any collection.

This razor is a beautiful work of art. It is fantastic to shave with. I didn't know how I would like a 6/8 but it feels great in the hand and is easy to manouver. You need to add one of these to your collection, you won't be disappointed.

Opening this parcel from the mail is something I will never forget. The Bismarck isn't only beautiful with the gold trim and spine embellishments, it feels great to hold, and the shave is like driving a rolls Royce. Smooth as a baby's bum. Do yourself a favour and add this one to your collection.

What a top notch razor! My first use with the Bismarck; before using, I stropped it 60 times. My beard was only about half a centimetre but glided through beautifully.

Wow what a razor, simply stunning and beautfully balanced.

The razor did not come shave ready but was very simple to bring to par. I just gave it 30 seconds of circular motions on a lathered 12K barbers hone and 60 passes on a hanging leather strop. Then I had the most amazing buttery smooth shave. This is my first 6/8 and I love the size, fits beautifully in the hand and glides across the skin. This has just become my go to razor… Buy one you won't be disappointed.

I have enjoyed using this razor almost daily for the last month and a bit. I have not had to hone it and have just stropped it each time before using and it has worked marvelously. It is truly a work of art and something that is an absolute pleasure to use.

What can I say! Opening the box of the Bismarck and gazing on this stunning razor for the first time will stay with me for life!

This is my first straight razor and while not quite shave ready, 50-60 strops got it fairly close and I managed a good 10 shaves before I bothered ordering a hone and giving the edge that little bit extra it needed. Some say the 6/8 is a bit big for a beginner, but I'm a big guy and it fits perfectly in my hand.

After the hone, the shave was phenomenal! Coming from over a year of safety razors, I really have never had a closer shave with less irritation. Anyone thinking about starting shaving with straights, I'd say go for it, the feeling is sublime!

It is a great razor indeed and does the job perfectly and mesmerized me by it's stunning look.I did a few rounds of stropping before shaving beacuse of my old habbit and Mr Bismark :) was just gliding on my face. 5 stars indeed.Thanks

This is a good quality razor with nice detail and workmanship. It is not however shave ready out of the box and should be sent to get properly honed before use.

The Dovo Bismarck 6/8 is a great shaver and is a must have for anyone who is into straight razor shaving.

A true collectors Straight Razor.

This is a top quality razor. It's not cheap, but the price is in scale with the quality.
It's probably not the wisest choice to buy one as your first Straight razor, any Dovo would suit, but if you really want it, you wont be dissapointed.
