In 1935, Albert Fouquet decided to fulfil a promise made to Ahmed, a childhood friend, and, at the same time, realise one of his greatest dreams.

Fascinated by the culture of ancient Egypt, his visit allowed him to spend days exploring the Great Pyramid of Giza, as well as the temples of Luxor and Hatshepsut. This trip also represented a unique opportunity: to delve into the birthplace of perfume. He wanted to research the essences used for thousands of years and discover the mysteries of those extraordinarily aromatic bottles offered to the gods to protect the pharaohs, or the scents that delighted the legendary Cleopatra.

From the moment he crossed the threshold of Ahmed's house, his journey became even more fascinating. The villa's impressive garden housed dozens of flowers unknown to Albert, filling the air with aromas that awakened new emotions in him. Overwhelmed by so many sensations and unable to extend his stay any longer, Albert planned a second trip four months later with a clear goal: to find a unique perfume. After several weeks of intense work at Ahmed's villa, Albert Fouquet returned to his château in Paris and perfected the final details of a new formula. Thus was born Egypt, a fragrance that became part of his exclusive private collection.

EDITOR'S NOTES

Eight & Bob Egypt is inspired by ancient Egyptian culture and the aromatic materials perfumer Albert Fouquet discovered on his travels. It folds the unfamiliar into the familiar, opening with notes of lavender, moss and lemon, before moving to a heart of spices - cardamom and nutmeg. The robust base settles in sandalwood, leather and patchouli.

One imagines a barbershop in Egypt: a scent laden with nutmeg, cardamom, dried fruits and a fine dry base of dry woods. To retain the barbershop feel, lavender, the quintessential fougere note. Look for a note of dark roasted coffee at the depths too: Egypt is a scent of subtle layers.

Warm & Masculine

My wife purchased this fragrance for me to wear on our wedding day. The warm woody scent lingered extremely well for the entire day despite several heated dance floor sessions. Unlike the gentleman who sold Lauren the product, I don't possess the industry vernacular, however I appreciate a scent that doesn't leave me smelling like a bouquet of flowers.

An All Rounder

I wouldn't call this a stand-out, but it's a perfect all rounder for frequent use (office, casual dates, friends), whilst you save your other fragrances for special occasions. It's warm, slightly sweet and settles into a nice woody vanilla dry down. I believe its quite masculine and has enough depth to stop it from being a more linear scent.
