At the Deauville-La Touques racecourse, Albert Fouquet stood among the refined spectators, drawn in by the thrill of horse racing. Each summer, he joined his friend Christian - a skilled aristocratic bettor - at his estate in nearby Honfleur to enjoy the races and lively conversation.

Christian's garden, filled with Honfleur roses and sea-kissed vegetation, inspired one of Albert’s most personal creations: a perfume that captured the elegance of coastal life. Christian, enchanted by the scent, longed to own it - but Albert, ever discreet, reserved it for himself.

One day at the track, Christian proposed a playful wager: "Bet on Grillemont. If I lose, you owe me your perfume." Fouquet agreed—but Grillemont placed third. Christian lost the bet and the chance to claim the fragrance.

Back in Paris, as a gesture of friendship, Albert crafted a special version of the perfume using roses from Christian’s garden, cedarwood, and musk. He named it Le Pari d’Honfleur - a tribute to their memorable day at the races.

EDITOR'S NOTES

From afar Le Pari d’Honfleur is undoubtedly a fig fragrance, both creamy and leafy, fruity and green - but after taking a view up close, its architecture is intricate. Violet flower holds everything together - it gives the scent a marked floral dimension, inflected with cardamom and stabilised with tonka bean, coconut and fig, tied into a knot with white musk. A stylish scent - a fig done well.
