Fragrances should make us think - in fact, shouldn't they make us feel? Secretions Magnifiques is a conceptual fragrance, and speaks a message as to the nature of perfumery. Can we bracket the hedonistic, pleasure-driven aspects of ourselves and truly be objective about scent? Here Secretions Magnifiques asks: what do we accept as clean and sacred, and what do we reject as dirty and profane? ... making the boundary line blurry in the process. Can we appreciate the artistic realism of a scent like this, or are we too wrapped up in notions of purity, freshness, and cleanliness? This is the manifest power of fragrance - it excites, disgusts, and can subvert the norm. This is Etat Libre d'Orange at their worst, which, is indeed their best.

Five out of five as an artistic creation. This fragrance is a collector's item and must be tested before purchase. A salty marine fragrance with an unapologetically confronting opening. This fragrance celebrates the idea of 'repulsion & attraction' in a fascinating way. Once settled, this fragrance has a milky-woodsy feel with a metallic twang over the top. Infamous for a reason. Conceptual perfumery with brash aplomb. Great for dinner parties as a fun curiosity. Worthy of testing, if only to say, "I've tried that!"

Not nearly as risque as people make out.

I held out trying this for more than a decade because of its reputation. Bought a sample here and was surprised how non repulsive it actually is. I would go so far as to say actually quite wearable. It is a definitely a strange fragrance that has a piercing sharpness when you smell it up close. But wafting in the air it leaves an intriguing scent trail demands attention in a good way. Don't let the advertising copy taint an inventive piece of fragrance art.

QUITE INTERESTING, VERY MELONISH

After reading all the skanky reviews of this fragrance, I was quite surprised to find it very fruity at first. Then the jarring weirdness hits. I felt a bit queasy until the middle notes came out, most likely because I don't enjoy melon that much but once it had dried down, the last few hours were quite nice. Definitely a fragrance to go easy on, especially in the hotter months.
