That fragrance belonged to the daily work. It accompanied the objects on their journeys, allowing the sense of smell to express a part of the story that their formal appearance left unspoken. Over time, it was the very people who received those boxes who came to recognise this olfactory signature and ask whether it could exist independently.

Thus LAVS became a fragrance, marking the beginning of Filippo Sorcinelli’s olfactory exploration.

Twenty-five years have passed since then, and as the fragrance travelled across countries, cultures and sensibilities, its creator was also journeying through himself. Tailoring was joined by photography, painting, music, performance and an increasingly personal olfactory universe, in which fragrance came to assume the status of an artistic language.

Olfactory exploration became a means of questioning the sacred, the body, memory, vulnerability, desire and that unfathomable realm of the human being in which beauty and unease so often recognise one another.

The new formulation takes shape at the moment when Filippo Sorcinelli chooses to look back along that path from the distance needed to understand its meaning. Twenty-five years thus enter LAVS XXV as experience, awareness and transformation, while the bottle’s mirror-like gold reveals the most elusive material of all: time itself, when it finally returns to our hands and allows us to recognise, within what we have become, the still-living imprint of what we once were.

LAVS will never be as it was before, yet it returns to being what it once was.

"To return to LAVS today is therefore to encounter the work that gave rise to all that followed, bringing with it the experience accumulated along the way. The new formulation stems from the desire to lead the fragrance towards a more intense and contemporary definition of its identity, preserving the character that made it recognisable while reworking its olfactory composition with the awareness gained through years of fragrance creation. It is the same LAVS, viewed from a different point in life, after its creator has learned to understand the material more deeply and, through the material, himself.

Reformulating a work so closely bound to one’s own biography means accepting that fidelity, too, can take an evolving form. A living work passes through its creator, records the passage of time and returns to ask who that creator has become. LAVS preserves the memory of its birth and carries it towards a new maturity, more profound and radical, in which its origins remain discernible while its language belongs fully to the present.

The bottle, too, emerges from this same reflection, translating the relationship between memory and transformation into form. Its body is dominated by a deep black, progressively traversed by chromed gold until it gives rise to a surface in which darkness and light seem to merge. The gold possesses a reflective, almost liquid quality: it responds to its surroundings, gathers fragments of space and reflects the image of the person observing it, making the bottle an ever-changing object, transformed by the light that falls upon it. The name LAVS — Latin for Praise — is reduced to its essence and placed at the centre in polished gold, emerging with the simplicity of a seal. The tactile, entirely gold cap, crafted like the precious tesserae of his atelier, completes the form with an absolute luminosity."
