Isabelle Larignon's Inspiration:
“As autumn dawned, I longed to relive the magic of summer nights, the intoxication of dancing and basking in the sunlight. In contrast to my daily urban grind, I craved nature, lightness, carefreeness and the heart’s tremors!’ The idea of a fizzy, fleshy, green perfume was born.”

The most autobiographical in the Isabelle Larignon collection. Behind Mandi Rhubi lies a character that’s part autobiography, part fantasy. Mandi Rhubi’s story begins with a personal anecdote: “At the age of 16, I was studying ballet and contemporary dance, one of my teachers said to me: ‘You’ll end up at Crazy Horse!’, because she was taller than the average and had all the measurements sought by Bernardin, the founder of the famous Parisian cabaret”.

A green that is both miraculous and wicked - a hellion, a rascal, a cherub - this is nature seen through a cheeky kaleidoscope, which becomes a magical device that multiplies by infinity, seemingly without limit. In Mandi Rhubi, green citrus and fruits are seen through this lens, gleaming, vibrating, and iridescent, the inevitable response is ‘‘wow’’. Tart fruit skins, juicy sourness, satisfying crunch, sizzling tang: the greens range from lime and green mandarin to apple to rhubarb to blackcurrant, oftentimes fusing into a scintillating green mass that’s a pure flash of sensation. There are roots, gardens herbs and veggie patch produce in this bounty, tickled with cool aniseed, faint candy-like sweetness, and familiar flecks of tomato leaf, with a botanical quality that recalls the pine-inflected spiciness of aromatic gin, topped up with a spirtz-y pétillant - be it Champagne, tonic, or the excited, hissing gas bubbles of a freshly opened green bottle of Perrier (“L'eau qui fait pschitt”). This green light strobes, blinds, and lulls - it is beaming with vitality and energy, and the kaleidoscope looks back onto its wearer, reaffirming life with a cheeky grin and a disposition to erupt into joyful laughter and riotous dance.
