Ithaka is the first creation of Versi Studio, which is an envisioned olfactive trilogy from Mendittorosa exploring the relationship between poetry and perfumery. The first in this trilogy is Ithaka, inspired by the poem Ithaka written by emblematic Greek Poet C. P. Cavafy, first published in 1911.

“As you set out for Ithaka | hope your road is a long one, | full of adventure, full of discovery … May there be many summer mornings when, | with what pleasure, what joy, | you enter harbors you’re seeing for the first time; | may you stop at Phoenician trading stations to buy fine things, | mother of pearl and coral, amber and ebony, sensual perfume of every kind | as many sensual perfumes as you can; | and may you visit many Egyptian cities to learn and go on learning from their scholars."

Editor's Notes

A classical amber composition centred around benzoin resin, a sweet and vanillic balsamic note that envelops, all while providing the exquisite canvas to then develop a full amber profile. There is a distinct woodiness, giving the scent a grounding thud and dry fullness, all while incense operates on its signature paradox - it fills yet lightens. Joined with cypriol, it has a clean smoke burn, closer to a shimmer than heavy soot. A scant touch of magnolia refreshes the scent. These materials stop this amber accord (benzoin, labdanum, patchouli) from turning too sticky; though it is smooth, mellow, and glossy. As Ithaka develops, cedarwood becomes more and more prominent, lending spiciness and texture - a savoury touch, stirring the feeling of something beyond perfume alone, but also discovery, adventure, and pleasure.
