Shapton Glass Stone: HR 8000 Grit

$11995 $15500

Shapton Glass Stones are known for their exceptional quality, durability and ease of use. Unlike other waterstones, Shapton Glass Stones do not need to be soaked in water before use - simply wet the surface and begin honing your blade.Shapton sharpening stones are made with finely graded ceramic cutting media that requires less flattening and lasts 4-5 times longer than most water stones. The abrasives in these glass stones are also extremely uniform, meaning the abrasive encountered with the first pass of a blade will be the same as the 5000th pass. Each stone is comprised of a 5mm tempered glass backing plate fused to a 5mm thick stone. The #8000 grit stone has a particle size of 1.84 microns and is ideal for sharpening a straight razor. Used in combination with the #4000 grit stone, you'll have an edge that you can shave with. If you like a sharper edge, you could follow with the #16000 grit stone, which will give a smoother shave. We recommend using the Shapton Stone Holder to hold the stone in place when in use. Made in Japan.

Awesome Stone

Use it to finish sharpening woodworking tools and kitchen knives and it’s large size, quick cutting action and the amazing finish it gives made it worth the money. Thanks also to mensbiz for the great price and service.

Good Times.

I'm a newcomer to honing so this review may be of interest to others who are considering making the change.
Went to the Melbourne store and spoke to Audric who was most helpful.
Between some advice from him and YouTube I though I'd give it a go.
The process of wetting the stone and honing your razor is actually quite simple and even therapeutic, like polishing shoes.
I picked up an old razor for peanuts to practice on but after hardly any time at all moved up to a new Dovo.
Ended up with the Shapton 4000, 8000 and Holder.
I have all but eliminated disposable razors from my life.
Totally worthwhile exercise, I recommend it.

First stone for me

A little bit new to cut throat shaving, purchased this as it already beveled and the first time I used it, it brought my razor back to better than new, I will definitely be buying the 4000 and 16000 in the near future. I collect old cut throats and would like to have them all shave ready .

Best of the best

I own Shapton 8000, 16000 & 30000 grit stones. It is wide enough for my straight razors. I honed the razors eight times each side. It produced a finish on my great great grandfather's Bengal razor, equal to a 'Feather Cut' disposable straight razor blade; which I swear is scalpel sharp. My razors were sharpened once like this in March and they are still sharp in October with a few slaps on a Dovo strop before each shave.

... and it shines

Love finishing off with an 8000 on my cut throat. I strongly encourage people to buy the 4000 and the 8000 together if possible.
