Toskovat’s homage to autumn seeks (and finds) warmth and comfort in a collage of impressions, resulting in a stifled colour palette of ochre browns and rusty oranges. Its feeling is balanced, full yet elegantly subtle, and it is difficult to pinpoint a dominant impression. The fragrance is spicy with an echo of fresh smoke, emitting from smoked, dried, toasted, and sugared materials: marron glace, s’mores, walnut, bourbon whiskey, tobacco, and even ash. There is a woodiness that first appears in the blunt raspiness of mace, intensified by the earthy shades of truffle - its pungency present yet played at a low yet audible volume. An important note here is carob, which recalls cocoa and dried fruits, marking the total body of this scent. Worked with pine, oak, mahogany, and sycamore woods, Forlorn Embers is an invitation into the woods at dusk, stippled with decaying leaves and branches, mixing low sunlight and fluffy blankets of shadow.
