Bat is an experience which challenges us with its realism. It is a nocturnal séance, an image of the cave in which the bat resides, rocks glistening with a minerally-metallic shine. In this twilight light, fruit notes gain a mysterious character – they are intensified and irreal and cold to the touch. Fig, passionfruit, and guava become strange to themselves, retaining their potency and characteristic sharpness. This is the pleasure of Bat – it sees familiar ingredients in the dim evening light, until it becomes something new altogether. In the night, soil, mosses, and stones become shiny jewels, whilst jasmine gains a rubbery touch.
