It’s possible to understand Amouage’s latest releases, especially those authored by Quentin Bisch, as studies of frankincense. Though this has always been Amouage’s trademark since their inception with Gold, these fragrances are emphatically metamorphic - frankincense is no longer the means toward a larger goal, rather, it is the subject; the goal itself.

In Decision, it is evident that Bisch has achieved the balance. The note is expressive, full-spectrum, and happily in the company of other ingredients in service of its citric, smoky, and mildly woody profile. The result is immediately satisfying: it is recognisably frankincense from beginning to end, but everything around it modulates its character.

Decision is cool in temperature, bright, and aromatic: one perceives it as a woody fragrance with lines of resinous cardamom, piney juniper berry, and cedarwood grain - merging into the folds of this central incense note. Its central contrast is, in fact, vanilla. Clear and present in the mix, it lends a ‘smudgy’ effect - faint sweetness, texture, and thickness - it gives body to frankincense. In typical Bisch fashion, he injects modern aromamaterials to reveal new expressive possibilities from this ancient material.
