A full geranium, held in light.

Geranium Absolue places geranium at the centre and lets the material unfold with unusual clarity. The first impression is bright and aromatic: citrus light, dry herbs, and a refined green lift that opens the perfume with immediate elegance. The heart carries Bourbon geranium in several directions at once: leafy, floral, rosy green, gently powdery and vivid. It is familiar enough to be understood quickly, yet structured enough to feel distinctive on skin. The base brings the Tauer warmth: tonka, a vanilla glow, cistus labdanum, moss, soft woods and musk. The result is fresh at first contact, warmer in the heart, and polished in the drydown.

Between leaf and flower.

Andy Tauer's Inspiration:
"For a long time I felt that geranium deserved its own perfume. I wanted the material to breathe: leaf, flower, herb and powder all present at the same time. The breakthrough came when I trusted a classical triangle again: green herbs, tonka and a vanilla warmth. With brightness above and warmth underneath, geranium suddenly had the space it needed. It opened, became rounder, and kept its vivid green-floral character. I let it remain geranium.

Geranium is not rose. It is not cologne. It is not only leaf, and not only flower. It is green and aromatic, yes, and you find it in countless classic masculine colognes, where it is often hidden under an avalanche of lavender and dihydromyrcenol. But geranium is much more than that. It can be tender, powdery, rosy. Miles away from soapy...""

Editor's Notes

The full personality of geranium. Leaf and flower, herb, resin, and moss. Geranium Absolue leans into several genres with ease, and while one is tempted to commit it to one over another, that misses the point of the experience. Its brilliance is multiple: it develops the key facets of the leafy flower, situated between rose and mint though irreducible to either. It also draws out some of its hidden features - a light salt crust, savouriness, crunchy leafy herbs, and a luscious overgrowing verdancy - contained with good and skilful blending.

Tauer lightly frames this geranium within a familiar blend of stylistic tropes. It is generously padded, on a bed made from hay, moss, and grass with a charming coumarin and vanilla haze, twinkling in key Tauer fashion. Its greenness, fresh and bright at first, soon settles on darker tones - merging with resins and a hint of undergrowth that recalls the vintage charm of a fougere. It never quite dives into a full retro impression, as columns of ambroxan, cashmeran, and vetiverol - amber, musk, and woods - keep the scent lean, dry, and upright.
