The most materially diverse family in perfumery. Floral fragrances range from the soliflore simplicity of a single rose or iris through to baroque compositions where jasmine, tuberose and ylang-ylang build into something almost overwhelming. Floral Fragrances

The Floral family comprises the subfamilies: Floral and Soft Floral. Changing tastes and the cyclical nature of trends has brought the floral family back to the fore for masculine tastes, although we believe it never really went out of style. The richness, intensity, and contrast achievable through floral materials is staggering, with a variety unsurpassed by any other category. Florals range from crisp and fresh to rich and profound, each an example of the importance of presentation and style - in the hands of a perfumer, the same flower expresses itself a hundredfold. Our collection of floral fragrances are intent upon variety and quality.

The Fragrance Wheel classification system was founded by fragrance taxonomist Michael Edwards and is a great way to classify and discover fragrances. The underlying principle is that once you find a fragrance family you like (our Fragrance Finder tool can help with this), many of the other fragrances within that category will also be of interest to you.

The Floral Category

From single notes to symphonies of scent, the floral family is both a natural category and an exaggerated one. Expressions of rose, jasmine, and tuberose are some of the most popular florals, which are complex perfumes in their own right. Blending these together with notes borrowed from other families, the idea of the floral is underlined with power and intensity. 

Our most popular floral fragrances include No. 88 by Czech & Speake, Jasmin et Cigarette (Etat Libre d’Orange), Eau de Protection (Etat Libre d’Orange), Golestan (Tauer Perfumes), PHI-Une Rose De Kandahar (Tauer Perfumes), and MAAI (Bogue). 

Also make note of floral fragrances with gourmand inflections, such as Indecent Cherry (BTSO) or Sugar Addict (BTSO), or the enduringly popular wave of fig fragrances, including Heeley’s Athenean, with woody, leafy, and stemmy green impressions. 

The Soft Floral Category

Soft Florals fill the mind with memories of classic floral accords, sparkling with aldehydes, and soft powdery musks. Perhaps most popular is Melograno from Santa Maria Novella, which luxuriates in old-world charm. Also consider Heeley’s Blanc Poudre or Iris de Nuit, as well as Cow, Cockatiel, and Snowy Owl all from Zoologist. These are superbly textured fragrances, meltingly soft as they spread across the skin of the wearer.
